Real silk, not satin
19 momme mulberry silk with French seams. It reads as silk in photos because it is silk, with a soft glow instead of a flash glare.

Cut for the chair
Wide lapels open away from the neck, so your stylist can work and your foundation never touches fabric.

Worn again after
Ivory and champagne are not costumes. Brides wear the robe on the honeymoon and every Sunday morning after.

Why a silk bridal robe photographs better
The getting ready hour is the most photographed part of the day after the ceremony itself. Your photographer will shoot you in the chair, at the window, with your mother and while the dress comes off the hanger. Polyester satin, which is what most of the cheapest bridal robes are made of, has a hard, mirror-like shine that throws flash back at the lens and shows every crease from sitting. Mulberry silk has a lower, softer lustre that photographers call a glow, and it falls back into shape when you stand up.
Silk also breathes. The getting ready room is usually warm, full of people, steamers and hot tools, and silk stays cool against the skin where synthetic satin traps heat. That matters when you are wearing the robe for three or four hours with a full face of make-up.
Which robe for which bride
Most brides need one robe for the morning. Choose by length, by how formal the day is and by what you want to wear it for afterwards.
| Robe | Silk and length | Best for | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mattina Bridal Silk Robe | 19 momme, short, sheer lace sleeves | The classic getting ready robe, ivory or champagne | $245 |
| Vestaglia Lunga Portofino | 22 momme, floor length, shawl collar | Black tie weddings and full length portraits, in ivory | $395 |
| Vestaglia Capri | 19 momme, above the knee | Summer and destination weddings, champagne or powder pink | $265 |
The Mattina is the one we designed for the wedding morning. The lace sleeves are sheer enough to show your arms in photos and sit well clear of the wrists, so they stay out of the way while your nails are done. The Portofino is the dramatic choice: a floor length ivory robe moves like a second gown when you walk to the window, and it looks right in a villa, a historic hotel or a formal ballroom suite.
What to wear under the robe
Put on your wedding lingerie before hair and make-up, then the robe over it. That way you only need to step into the dress at the end, without pulling anything over your head. The ivory Sposa lace set has a convertible low back bra for open backed gowns, and the Velo bridal garter set adds a keepsake leg garter. If you want the pieces to match through the evening, the long Perla silk negligee is cut from the same ivory silk for later. See all of it on the bridal lingerie page and the wedding night lingerie edit.
Sizing, timing and delivery
Robes come in two sizes. S/M fits US sizes 0 to 10 and L/XL fits 12 to 16, and both are cut with room in the shoulder so the robe sits open without slipping. If you are between sizes, take the larger one, because a slightly fuller robe looks more relaxed in photos. Orders ship express within the US in 2 to 4 business days and shipping is free from $150, so a robe alone ships free. We suggest ordering four to six weeks before the wedding, which leaves time to steam it, try it with your lingerie and use the one free size exchange in our Fit Promise if you need it. A gift for the bride
A silk bridal robe is one of the most common gifts from a maid of honor or a mother of the bride, because it is used on the day and long after it. Every order arrives in a silk gift box inside a plain outer box, and you can add a handwritten note in the bag with no prices in the parcel. For more ideas, the lingerie gifts page and the honeymoon lingerie edit have pieces from $55.
Questions about silk bridal robe for getting ready
What kind of robe does a bride wear?
Most brides wear a short or long robe in white, ivory or champagne while hair and make-up are done. Silk or satin is the usual fabric because it looks elegant in getting ready photos. Our Mattina robe is ivory mulberry silk with lace sleeves, $245.
Is silk or satin better for a bridal robe?
Silk is better if photos and comfort matter. Mulberry silk has a soft glow that flatters in flash photos and breathes in a warm room. Most satin robes are polyester, cheaper, but shinier and warmer to wear for several hours.
Should a bridal robe be short or long?
Short robes are easier to work in and suit summer or destination weddings. Long robes look more formal and photograph beautifully in full length shots. Many brides pick short for the chair and long for the portraits.
What color robe should a bride wear?
Ivory or white is traditional and lets the bride stand out from bridesmaids in a tonal palette. Champagne is a softer alternative that suits warm skin tones and gold jewelry. Both Mattina colors are in stock.
When should I buy my bridal robe?
Order four to six weeks before the wedding. Our robes ship express in 2 to 4 business days in the US, which leaves time to steam the silk, try it with your lingerie and exchange the size once for free if needed.
How much does a silk bridal robe cost?
Polyester satin bridal robes often cost under $50, while real mulberry silk robes run from a few hundred dollars to several thousand at couture houses. Ours are $245 for the short Mattina and $395 for the floor length Portofino, with free express US shipping.
